On the Road to Wigan Pier!

Apologies to George Orwell for the title of this blog but it felt right. In fact, there is no Pier at Wigan, rather it could have been an old jetty for coal loading etc in the canal area there made famous by George Formby Sr and Jr in their songs. So there you go, a bit of history and culture hits GFS, think I should lie down now.

Our record at Wigan does not make for good reading. Just 1 win in the last 4 visits. I am hoping for some kind of reaction after the 1-1 with Fulham and the defeat to Shiteh and will be looking for more contributions from the likes of Walcott and Gervinho as RVP did take the brunt of the Fulham defence activities last Saturday. Walcott has improved immensely but Gervinho is still a mystery at times. He does confuse teams with his pace and attack but lacking in goals so far. Lets hope he improved that today and gets a better understanding with his team mates.

Wigan have not had a good run of late, although they did beat the Mackems last week, losing their last four home games and not getting a result at home since the win against QPR back in August . Martinez is fully aware of the relegation battle on his hands and seeing Steve Bruce go this week will mean a battling performance is need from them. We will have to be on our toes today right through our team today but I am confident we can bring the points home. That would be a nice way to celebrate our birthday eh?

Most likely team?

Szczesny; Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Santos; Ramsey, Song, Arteta; Walcott, van Persie, Gervinho.

On a different tack Kolo Toure has told Shiteh he wants to leave if he does not get a regular place in the first team. As Balotelli has been dropped, allegedly I wish him well with his demand. Perhaps if he listened to other music on his headphones other than Whitney Houston (fact) he might step up his performances!!!!

So Gooners.Lets hope we get to say "Turned out nice again" Thanks Mr Formby, and enjoy the game.

Laters,
The Dog
